Episode 32
Safety and Health Professionals Use of Consensus Standards with Tim Fisher
On this episode Ted and Barb welcome Tim Fisher, CSP, CHMM, CPEA, ARM, STS, CAE, and Director of Standards and Technical Services at ASSP. Fisher provides direction in the overall administration and operation of the technical aspects of ASSP-related standards programs and publications.
Tim has been with Safety since he was nineteen years old, and he has always been a standards and regulatory guy. For him, standards and regulations are not tedious; there is always something going on, there is always something new. In this episode Tim shares about how to use consensus standards to identify work-related hazards and exposures and how they are used by OSHA and other regulatory agencies, what is the relationship between industry consensus standards and regulatory standards, why it is critical to know the version of the standard referenced, how to interpret a standard name, ANSI/ASSP standards, and much more. His recommendation for you is: Make sure that you’re meeting the standards that are most current. It could save you a lot of money.
