Communicating the “Why” Behind Safety
In this episode, Ted and Barb talk to Nick Berger who is a Safety Director at August Winter & Sons. He has garnered a reputation in his field as an environmental health and safety professional. He manages job sites throughout the state to ensure safety in the workplace and safety compliance. Nick’s goal is to change his department’s philosophy from reactive to proactive. He’s also a Civil Affairs Officer for the US Army Reserve since 2018 and served between 2004 and 2018 in the Wisconsin Army National Guard.
Nick started the conversation by sharing how his military career helped with his work in the safety profession. He talks about the importance of understanding regulations in this field. He also talks about safety in the personal actions of employees. He made a point about the importance of influencing and encouraging them to follow the rules. Nick also talks about a trend he’s seeing in the past months which relates to people coming in and going out of the industry.
