Managing, Multi-tasking and doing it Safe

In today’s episode, Ted and Barb introduce us to Nate Ortlieb who is a Self-Perform Carpentry Vertical Lead at The Boldt Company. Nate has 20 years of experience in the construction industry, mainly focusing on commercial and industrial sectors from schools and churches all the way to turn key combined cycle power generation plants. He also had the opportunity to travel to the Midwest for these projects and work with people from all around the world. The new role he has in The Boldt Company requires him to manage multiple self-performed projects, from pursuit to turnover, driving the importance of procedures and communication in these projects.

The role that he has at The Boldt Company gave him the opportunity to handle a lot of people and he talks about the different challenges he faced while working with his employees. He shared some of the incidents that happened at the job site and how he handled them. He said that implementing rules and regulations helped him in managing his people. He shared how setting up these rules improved the morale of the job site. Communication was also one of the key elements in handling people and Nate focused on talking to his employees regarding accountability and engagement when it comes to the projects that they work on. It may be hard and challenging for Nate but he said it’s so rewarding especially because he has the chance to share his knowledge with his people.
